Moira Rand has always loved books – the smell of paper, the thrill of a clever twist, the kind of story that makes you forget you left the oven on… or the washing machine… possibly the stove too.
What she wasn’t prepared for was raising a reluctant reader.
It simply wasn’t fathomable.
How do you satisfy a strong-willed girl on the brink of puberty who dislikes everything ever written?
Short answer – she had absolutely no idea.
Armed with nothing but copious cups of coffee and a desperate scrolling habit through endless “recommended reads” (each promptly met with “Boring,” “Not interested,” or the dreaded “I’m not going to bother”), Moira did what any mildly unhinged, sleep-deprived bookworm would do:
She picked up her keyboard and wrote utter, glorious chaos.
To her surprise, her budding flower loved it.
Her once-sceptical teen started laughing. Then asked for more.
Soon, “nope” became… well, slightly less nope. Possibly even maybe.
And so Marlowe Bellamy was born.
A go-getter of a girl with flour-covered hands, a heart full of mischief, and a dog named Stubby who’s never far, unless there’s a sausage roll involved.
Now, fuelled by yarn tangles, wild ideas, and mugs of dangerously strong brew, Moira continues to create stories for kids who claim they “don’t like books.”
She hopes The Tangle & Trouble Mysteries gives readers a reason to laugh, a moment to reflect, and, above all, a spark that makes them fall in love with reading.
Even if it’s just one chapter.
“Marlowe is my hope to inspire anyone out there who needs to know that mistakes are OK, chaos is welcomed and never underestimate your hidden brilliance!” – Moira
